For close to 20 years, homeowners in the Hemingway Village Civic Association have banded together to create a float for Dublin's Independence Day celebration parade.

The families from 414 homes off Coffman Road construct the float from simple materials, such as chicken wire and construction paper, said Carol Forbush association president.

"We have a blast doing it," she said.

More neighborhood associations now are creating their own floats for the Independence Day parade, said Dublin Events Administrator Mary Jo DiSalvo.

The practice is a great way to build community, she said.

The parade will step off at 11 a.m. July 4 from Metro Center -- near the southwest corner of Frantz Road and state Route 161 -- and proceed north on Frantz, east on Bridge Street (state Route 161) and then south on High Street in Historic Dublin.

Gates for the stadium celebration will open at 4:30 p.m. The Drowsy Lads will play at 4:45 p.m., followed by No BS! Brass at 5:30 p.m.

Headliner Peter Frampton is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m.

Fireworks and the grand finale will follow at 9:50 p.m.

Wristbands that will allow admittance to the stadium for Dublin and Dublin City School District residents will be available for $5 beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, June 19, in the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road, with proof of residency.

Unsold wristbands will be available for the general public beginning at 11 a.m. July 4 at the stadium.
