Storms that brought heavy rain and power outages July 10 have forced the city to delay a Northam Park celebration that had been planned for Wednesday, July 12.

An announcement from Emma Speight, Upper Arlington’s public-affairs director, said the event to mark the opening of a new Northam Park playground and reading garden will be held July 19.

“The storms brought with them significant rainfall, some wind damage and a power outage in the area,” she said. “Tremont Elementary School is currently faced with clearing a flooded basement and working to restore its HVAC and sump-pump systems, and finishing work at the Northam Park playground and reading garden have been put significantly behind schedule, with more rain anticipated ... July 11.”

The July 19 celebration from 6 to 9:30 p.m. will include free pool and tennis admissions, children’s activities, tours of the new Tremont Elementary School additions and refreshments.

In the meantime, the city will offer free admission to Tremont Pool and the Northam Park tennis courts from 6 p.m.to dusk July 12.
