Westerville police said a 39-year-old New Albany man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman.

According to reports, the pair were arguing at the victim's residence in the 800 block of Fortunegate Drive on the night of June 29.

The woman told police she had asked the man to leave when he "became upset and began choking her." She claimed he struck her in the head and dragged her by her hair before sitting on top of her while she was on the ground, according to reports.

The suspect reportedly claimed the woman had been the aggressor, and said she was "getting in his face" and being "generally aggressive," reports stated.

The man had no visible injuries, while police noted the woman had several scratch marks, a cut on her lip and various rug burns, according to reports.

Police arrested the man and charged him with assault and domestic violence.

* Police investigated a situation in which a 28-year-old Westerville man allegedly checked into Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital with a bag of heroin.

According to reports, the man checked into the hospital around 5:30 a.m. June 1. Medical staff members found what they suspected to be a bag of heroin in his belongings and called police.

When the man heard that police were coming, he attempted to run away from the hospital but was stopped by an officer, reports stated.

He later admitted the 3.275-gram bag contained heroin, according to reports. The substance was sent for testing.

* Multiple vehicles were broken into throughout the city between June 26 and 28, including vehicles on Forest Glen Road, McCorkle Boulevard and Daniel Drive.
