A 20-year-old Worthington man allegedly assaulted a police officer July 2.

According to Worthington Division of Police reports, the man was standing on the corner of Pingree Drive and state Route 161 about 5 p.m. when he flagged down a passing police car "for assistance."

He then "punched the officer in the face and spit on him," reports said.

As officers arrested him, the man reportedly resisted arrest.

The man also admitted to drinking alcohol and using marijuana. He also admitted to using prescription drugs.

Officers reportedly found a pair of brass knuckles while searching him.

He was arrested and taken to the Franklin County jail on a felony charge of assaulting a police officer.
