A 40-year-old man suspected of robbery died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while being pursued by Columbus police officers July 23.
According to Columbus Division of Police incident reports, David L. Bush, address unknown, ran into the middle of Schiller Park, then shot himself as officers approached.
At 3:31 p.m. July 23, police received a call of an individual being robbed at Chase Bank, 833 S. High St., the report said.
According to witnesses, as police responded to the scene, Bush fled into Schiller Park, 1069 Jaeger St., the report said.
Officers spotted Bush in the middle of the park, but before they could approach him, Bush shot himself with a handgun, the report said.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted wound, police said.

At 7:40 p.m. that same day, a gym bag was stolen from a vehicle in the first block of West Beck Street. The thief broke a window, causing $800 damage.
Audio-visual equipment, valued at $600 was stolen between 5 p.m. July 13 and 8 a.m. July 14 from a vehicle in the 500 block of City Park Avenue.
An $850 handgun was stolen between 10 and 10:30 a.m. July 19 from a vehicle in the 500 block of East Livingston Avenue.
The thief broke a window, causing $300 worth of damage.
* More than $8,000 worth of merchandise was stolen between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. July 15 from a residence in the 300 block of East Whittier Street.
The victim told police someone gained entrance to his backyard through a fence, removed the air conditioner from a side window, then entered his residence and stole a $5,000 engagement ring, a $500 wedding ring, $800 earrings, a $300 video-game console, a $40 fire safe, the title to a car and a Social Security card.
