The official start of autumn is more than a month away, but registration begins Monday, Aug. 7, for fall programs offered through the Bexley Recreation and Parks Department.
One of the new offerings this fall is a series of financial planning seminars that will be held Sept. 5 and 21 as well as Oct. 5 at Jeffrey Mansion, 165 N. Parkview Ave. The department previously offered financial education classes, but the upcoming session will cover new topics such as surviving stock-market swings, said Michael Price, recreation director.
"We had an array of different classes that we could offer (in the previous series), but we couldn't offer them all right away," he said. "This is kind of a continuation of that."
Another new program scheduled at Jeffrey Mansion is "Chair Yoga," which will be offered Oct. 13 through Dec. 15. The class is designed for participants who may have wrist or knee problems. It will allow them to stand or sit on a chair, rather than using a mat, to do yoga.
For youth, new offerings include a six-week speed, agility and core clinic to be held Aug. 27 through Oct. 8 at Wolfe Park. Buckeye Elite Sports Training and T360 Training will offer this program for student-athletes who are looking to improve their overall performance in any sport.
For children who don't have a natural aptitude for sports, a new Adapted Fun Fitness program will be offered Oct. 7-28 at the Montrose Elementary School gym, 2555 E. Main St. Developed in collaboration with occupational therapists, intervention specialists, general and adapted physical education teachers and parents, the class is designed to help children improve motor and social skills in a friendly environment.
Registration opens at noon Monday for Bexley residents and at noon Wednesday, Aug. 9, for nonresidents.
