The Westerville City School District is playing host to several events in preparation for the new school year, which begins Aug. 17.

Elementary pupils will start school at 9:05 a.m. and dismiss at 3:30 p.m.; the middle school day will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2:45 p.m.; and high school classes will commence at 7:25 a.m. and finish at 2:05 p.m. beginning Aug. 17.

Kindergarten and special needs preschool starts Aug. 22. Morning kindergarten runs from 9:05 to 11:40 a.m.; afternoon kindergarten sessions will be held from 12:55 to 3:30 p.m.; morning preschool classes will begin at 8:45 a.m. and dismiss at 11:15 a.m.; and afternoon preschool classes will begin at 12:45 and end at 3:15 p.m.

Those who have not yet registered should visit the district's website at wcsoh.org, click on the green "enrolling" tab on the home page, fill out the online application for registration and schedule an appointment to complete their enrollment.

Elementary schools

Westerville's elementary schools hold a variety of sessions before and after classes begin. The schedules include:

Alcott -- Back to School Days, 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10; school walk-through, 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16, and kindergarten parent orientation, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night for grades 1-5 will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23, with meetings for first grade at 7 p.m.; second grade at 6:30 p.m.; third grade at 5 p.m.; fourth grade at 5:30 p.m.; and fifth grade at 6 p.m.

Annehurst -- Back to School Day, 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8; Meet the Teacher, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Guests can bring their school supplies. Curriculum night for parents of students in grades K-2 is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 for parents of students in grades 3-5.

Cherrington -- Back to School Days, 9 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10; school walk-through, 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 16, and the PTA will host a snow cone social. A curriculum night will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23.

Emerson World Cultures Magnet School -- Back to School Days, 10 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10; school walk-through, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night for grades 1-3 will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12, and 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 for grades four and five. Students and families are also invited to attend the Emerson PTA Back to School Social that will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8.

Fouse -- Back to School Day, 10 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8; school walk-through, 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16; kindergarten parent night, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night for grades 1-3 will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Curriculum night for grades two, four and five will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

Robert Frost -- Back to School Days, 10 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8; school walk-through, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16; kindergarten parent orientation and curriculum night, 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Curriculum night for parents of students in grades 1-5 will be held Aug. 22 with meetings for first grade at 5 p.m.; second grade at 5:30 p.m.; third grade at 6 p.m.; fourth grade at 6:30 p.m.; and fifth grade at 7 p.m.

Hanby Magnet Elementary School -- Back to School Days, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 and 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 11; meet the teacher, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night will take place for parents Aug. 22: grades one through three will begin at 5:30 p.m.; and grades four and five will start at 7 p.m. The PTA will host a Back to School Picnic at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at Metzger Park.

Hawthorne -- Back to School Day, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7; meet the teacher, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m Aug. 16. Curriculum nights for Hawthorne will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 31 for grades 3-5 and Sept. 5 for grades K-2.

Huber Ridge -- Back to School Day, 4 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8; meet the teacher, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16; kindergarten parent orientation, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night for grades K-5 will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29.

Longfellow -- Back to School Days, 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10. Parents should bring their students to one of the three gentle start days from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 17-18 or 21. Letters with the assigned gentle start date as well as additional details will be mailed by July 31. The official first day of kindergarten is Aug. 22. Curriculum night will be held Sept. 14.

McVay -- Back to School Days, 10 a.m. to noon or 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8, meet the teacher open house, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16; kindergarten parent orientation, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Curriculum night for grades 1-3 will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Aug. 22 and 6 to 7:45 p.m. Aug. 29 for grades four and five.

Pointview -- Back to School Days, 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8; open house, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum night for kindergarten will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21. Families will learn their child's classroom assignment and have time to hear from their child's teacher. Curriculum night for grades 1-5 will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14.

Mark Twain -- Back to School Days, 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10, meet the Teacher open house, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 for grades K-5. Curriculum night is scheduled for Aug. 23, from 5 to 5:30 p.m. for third grade, 5:30 to 6 p.m. for fourth grade, 6 to 6:30 p.m. for fifth grade, 6:30 to 7 p.m. for second grade and 7 to 7:30 p.m. for first grade. Kindergarten will be from 5 to 6 or 6 to 7 p.m.

Whittier -- Back to School registration, 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10; meet the teacher open house, 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16; kindergarten orientation, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Curriculum night will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7. Grade level teachers will present the same information during both sessions.

Wilder -- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8; meet the teacher, 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16. Curriculum nights will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 for grades K-2 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 for grades 3-5.

Middle schools

The Westerville City School District is collecting emergency medical and parent permission information through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

All forms should be completed online. Parents and guardians of returning students should have already created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account to access student information. Fees must be paid prior to or during schedule pick-up. Payment can be made through EZPay, check, cash or money order.

Important dates include:

Blendon -- schedule pick-up, 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 9; and 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 10; sixth-grade and new student orientation at 6 p.m. Aug. 9 in the gymnasium. Yearbook and photo ID pictures will be taken during all schedule pick-up sessions with a make-up day during school Aug. 24. Curriculum night will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 24.

Genoa -- schedule pick-up 3 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 for grade six only; 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 for grades seven and eight. School and ID pictures will be taken during schedule pick-up. Students new to Westerville and sixth-graders who did not attend Moving Up Night in the spring will have an opportunity to meet the administration of Genoa at an informational gathering at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the gymnasium. Curriculum night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24.

Heritage -- Back to School days will be Aug. 9 and 10. On Aug. 9, sixth-graders will pick up their schedules, as well as have their school/ID pictures taken from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Orientation for sixth-graders will be at 6:30 p.m. On Aug. 10, seventh- and eighth-graders will pick up their schedules and have their school/ID pictures taken from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Curriculum night will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31.

Walnut Springs -- schedule pick-up, 3 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 for grade six only. An orientation program will be held that evening at 6:30 p.m. for new students and sixth-graders. The annual hot dog party for new students will be held Aug. 9, immediately after the orientation program on the football field. Schedule pick-up for seventh- and eighth-graders will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10. Pictures will be taken during schedule pick-up. Curriculum night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24.

High schools

All forms should be completed online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Important dates include:

Westerville Central High School -- schedule pick-up and school pictures: juniors and seniors, between 8 and 10 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9; freshmen and sophomores, from 8 to10 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10. A new student orientation will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the auditorium. Students who do not pick up their schedules should report directly to the auditorium on the first morning of school.

Westerville North High School -- schedule pick-up: juniors and seniors, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9.; freshmen and sophomores from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Freshmen and new student orientation will be held in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Aug. 10. On Aug. 17, all students should report to advisory by 7:25 a.m., where they will receive instructions on opening day activities. The annual senior ceremony will take place at 7:30 a.m. in the gymnasium Aug. 18. On that day, freshmen, sophomores and juniors will report to their first scheduled class. Seniors should report to the auditorium by 7:15 a.m.

Westerville South High School -- schedule pick-up: juniors and seniors, from 8 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 9; freshmen and sophomores from 8 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10. A freshmen and new student orientation program will be held for students and parents at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the auditorium.
