Licking Memorial to hold
senior brunch walk

Licking Memorial Health Systems will hold an Active-Senior Brunch Walk event for ages 60 and older at 9 a.m. Aug. 22, beginning at the Rotary Park Pavilion, 925 Sharon Valley Road, Newark.

Even Wang of Licking Memorial Neurology will discuss dementia during the walk, and a healthful brunch will be held afterward.

This free event is part of the LMHS Active-Senior program, and registration is required.

The Works features Southgate exhibit,
slates solar-eclips viewing

The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art and Technology, 55 S. First St., Newark, recently introduced a new Licking County Legacies exhibit featuring the Southgate Corp.

The Southgate Corp., founded in 1953 by John “Jack” O’Neil, developed affordable housing for World War II veterans and the Southgate Shopping Center. At the exhibit, guests will learn about the history of Southgate and O’Neill’s contributions to Licking County.

Cost of admission to The Works is $10 for adults, $8 for ages 55 and older and $6 for children. The Works is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The Works also will play host to a solar-eclipse viewing, with expert guidance from the Ohio State University at Newark from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 21.

The program will be led by Michael Stamatikos, assistant professor in the physics and astronomy departments and the Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particles Physics. Attendance is free.

The Works will sell solar-eclipse glasses during the event for $1 each.

The museum will be closed during the event.

Refreshments and restrooms will be available at The Grill at The Works on South Second Street.

Lou Mitchell golf outing
rescheduled for Aug. 28

The fifth annual Lou Mitchell Memorial Golf Outing for Suicide Prevention has been rescheduled for noon Aug. 28 at Denison Golf Club at Granville, 555 Newark Granville Road.

Registration will open at noon, with a simultaneous start at 1 pm. The event features door prizes for all golfers, various competitions and a dinner with an informative presentation.

Historical society seeking
golf-outing sponsors

The Licking County Historical Society is seeking sponsors and golfers for its annual Golf Outing fundraiser, which will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at Moundbuilders Country Club, 125 N. 33rd St., Newark.

The cost to golf is $80 per person or $320 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a boxed lunch before the round, two drink tickets, dinner after the round and raffle tickets for prizes.

Sponsorship opportunities include the Eagle Sponsorship for $500, which includes public recognition at the event, a feature in all marketing materials promoting the event, signs at a designated hole and green and the ability to bring a vendor table to distribute literature at tee boxes; and a Hole Sponsorship for $150, which includes recognition at the event, signs

and optional vendor table at a designated hole. Eagle Sponsorship includes a free round of golf for four.

Prize donations of any value alsomay be donated to LCHS to be used as raffle prizes.
