Grandview Heights police officers responded at 7:45 a.m. July 30 to the alley between Palmer and McClain roads, just north of West Goodale Boulevard, on a report of a theft in progress.

A witness reported seeing a man testing vehicles' door handles and watched as the man walked away from a vehicle after its alarm sounded. The man was seen riding a bicycle eastbound on West Goodale Boulevard, reports said.

Police made contact with a man matching the suspect's description in the 1000 block of Goodale. The 34-year-old Columbus man fled, but was found a short time later hiding underneath a truck parked behind a building on Goodale, according to reports. He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business.

* A resident of the 1100 block of Westwood Avenue reported Aug. 1 that two bicycles, a snowboard and tools had been stolen from his garage.

* A resident of the 800 block of Burr Avenue told police July 28 a laptop computer, a backpack and tools were stolen overnight from his work truck.

* A resident of the 1600 block of Ridgeway Place reported July 24 gift cards and a cellphone were taken from his car. The theft occurred between 3:30 p.m. July 21 and 9 a.m. July 22 while the vehicle was parked on the street in front of the man's home, reports said.

* A resident of the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue told police July 24 a store credit card was opened in her name. She said she received a credit-card bill July 21 for $5,946 in unauthorized charges. She said she called the credit-card company to report the identify theft.
