Groveport's industrial parks are adding a new tenant that will create approximately 350 new jobs over the next three years.

Fluvitex USA Inc., which makes pillows, comforters and other bedding for Ikea, will lease 124,000 square feet of the Northpointe II building at Rohr and Pontius roads, which was constructed two years ago. The company plans to invest between $12 million and $30 million in machinery, equipment and racking, according to Groveport Finance Director and Assistant City Administrator Jeff Green said.

"The total annual payroll is expected to be $4.1 million," Green said.

"The payroll will consist of approximately 75 percent factory and 25 percent management and specialty workers," he said. "The company will operate two shifts with seasonal spikes in operations."

Workers will make an average wage of $56,350 annually, he said. Hiring for sewing operators, maintenance technicians, quality and production professionals, and administrative jobs is expected to start in early 2018.

Fluvitex, a subsidiary of Masias, a textiles company based in Spain, will supply Ikea stores throughout central and eastern U.S. and Canada. The Swedish home furnishings retailer opened its Columbus store this summer.

"The Columbus region provides the cost-effective business climate and high-skilled workforce we need as we enter into the U.S.," Fluvitex General Manager Jaume Burgell said in a press release. "Groveport's strategic access to the U.S. market will enable easy movement of goods and U.S. expansion."

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.6 percent, five-year jobs creation tax credit that would be worth $300,000 over the life of the agreement if Fluvitex creates all the jobs it anticipates and meets other terms of the agreement.

The company is expected to begin operations by spring 2018.
