New Albany residents' monthly trash and recycling fees will increase by nearly a dollar next year.
The monthly fee for Rumpke service will increase from $16.08 to $17.02.
The increase comes as New Albany's three-year contracts with Rumpke for trash and recycling collection concludes this year.
City Council members voted Sept. 5 to extend the contract by one year after reviewing other bids from Rumpke that were more expensive.
The city will have a second option to extend the contract by one year in 2019. After that, a new contract would need to be established.
In New Albany, 2,963 residents use the trash and recycling service. Of those, 304 residents are senior citizens who receive a 10 percent discount on their monthly fees.
Senior citizens must be at least 60 years old and heads of their households to receive the discount.
