A $500 safe containing more than $1,000 in cash was stolen during a break-in at a business in the 3200 block of North High Street, it was reported to Columbus police at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 21.

The crime took place at 6:40 a.m. that day, according to reports, when someone pried open a rear door to the business.

Damage to the door and a window were estimated at $2,000.

In other recent Clintonville-area police reports:

* A woman who lives in the 4200 block of Zeller Road told police Sept. 19 that she had been bilked out of $9,800 the previous day.

The victim said a caller "used deception to get her to send" the money to a second suspect.

* A Powell man filed a report at 9:50 a.m. Sept. 21 regarding the theft four days earlier of a washer and dryer, together worth $1,200, from a home in the 200 block of Highfield Drive.

* In a report filed at 7:38 a.m. Sept. 21, a woman said her apartment in the 5000 block of Arrington Lane had been burglarized earlier that day.

The victim, who said she was missing $2 in cash, a wallet and a purse containing a debit card, told the reporting officer the break-in took place between 2 and 7 a.m.
