The Upper Arlington Golden Bear Marching Band first performed in 1929 and has a rich tradition of performing at nationally recognized events including the Russel Athletic Bowl (Orlando, 2015), the Liberty Bowl (Memphis, 2014), the Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, 2012, 2008, 2004), the Outback Bowl (Tampa, 2010), the Gator Bowl (Jacksonville, 2006), the Orange Bowl (Miami, 2002), and Disney World’s Magic Music Days Festival (Orlando, 1998).

The band has hosted several guest visits by performing groups and artists including Maynard Ferguson and the Big Bop Nouveau Band, Bill Watrous, Terry Waldo, and Ndugu Chancellor. At national bowl games, the band has performed with Jagged Edge, Lil’ Bow Wow, Jessica Simpson, and Limp Bizkit. The band also appeared in a made-for-television film featuring Matthew Broderick.

Graduates of the UA Band program continue to perform through their college years and beyond. Alumni have performed in bands from Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Penn State, Indiana, Cincinnati, Dayton, Bowling Green, Wooster, Miami, Eastman, and several others.

The 2017-18 Golden Bear Marching Band is having a great season! The UA Band was invited this year to the march in the prestigious Fiesta Bowl Parade in Phoenix, Arizona. The band will be leaving for  Arizona on December 28th and will return home on January 2nd. The band is once again performing five different shows at each of the five home games. The first show was titled  "The Valley of the Sun" which depicted Phoenix, Arizona. The second show was "Script Bears" performed once again to the song "The Regiment". The Third  Show, is a Tribute to Billy Joel with such songs as "Piano Man", We Didn't Start the Fire, Just the Way You Are, and a few more of his hits. The fourth show is a tribute to Stand Tunes, with Handclap, Chelsea Dagger, and Happy Together. The fifth and final show is the "Senior Show, and the band will be performing such songs as: Poker Face, Carry On Wayward Son and We Built This City. The Golden Bear Marching Band looks forward with great anticipation representing Upper Arlington at the Fiesta Bowl Parade and the rest of this fine season!
