Six Hilliard City Council candidates are expected to attend a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Joint Safety Services Building, 5181 Northwest Parkway.
The Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event, which will not include candidates for school board, said Libby Gierach, the chamber's president and CEO.
The InterSchool Parent and Teacher Organization organizes similar forums for school board candidates, Gierach said. That forum is scheduled Oct. 24.
The City Council campaign features four Republicans and two Democrats in competition for four seats. An independent candidate, Joel Scipio, recently withdrew from the race.
The Republican candidates include incumbents Tom Baker, Les Carrier and Kelly McGivern and Andy Teater, who is the current school board president.
Democrats Chad Queen and Sarah Schregardus are vying to become the first Democrat elected to Hilliard City Council in more than two decades.
"It is important for residents to have an opportunity to meet candidates and hear their views on important issues," Gierach said.
Candidates will be asked questions posed by a mediator, but they will not receive any questions in advance, Gierach said. Replies and opening and closing statements will be timed, she said.
