Grandview Heights police are investigating an early-morning single-car crash that killed the female driver.

The victim was Elizabeth A. Edwards, 36, of Renwick Lane, Columbus.

The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the intersection of West Fifth Avenue and Dublin Road.

Grandview police were notified police at 4 a.m. that a car was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on West Fifth Avenue from the area of Olentangy River Road. The car was estimated to be driving at more than 100 mph.

A 911 call was received about two minutes later reporting an injury crash had occurred at West Fifth and Dublin.

When officers arrived, they found the car fully engulfed in flames.

Edwards, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Franklin County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy.

The car is a black 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. Police are trying to determine the registered owner of the vehicle. All identifying marks were destroyed in the crash and subsequent fire.

The Columbus Police Department's Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit is assisting Grandview police with the investigation.
