Dublin City Council on Oct. 9 approved appointing Sue Burness as the city's Director of Communications and Public Information.

Burness, who assumed her new role Oct. 10, replaces Sandra Puskarcik, who retired last year.

Burness' annual salary is $109,700. City representatives said they did not have a dollar figure amount for the value of her benefits package.

Since Puskarcik retired, Burness had been serving as acting director.

Burness began working at the city of Dublin in January 2011 as a public affairs officer. Prior to working with the city, she was vice president for two marketing firms before starting her business, Burness Media Partners.

She also served as a board member for the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau and Dublin AM Rotary.

She received a bachelor's degree in journalism/public relations from Bowling Green State University.

Burness' appointment is part of the city's reorganization of its community relations division, which included changing the department's name to Communications and Public Information Division.
