Residents who attend Gahanna's Creepside are in for a scream with a few new additions this year.

Organized by Gahanna's Parks & Recreation Department, the fun will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Creekside District, 117 Mill St.

This year participants can experience the new feature of escape rooms created by Clintonville-based Trapped Columbus, in which attendees are "locked" in a room with friends or strangers to use their wits and the team's collective knowledge to escape.

For a $1 donation, attendees can choose one of three themed rooms, located in the backyard of the Ohio Herb Education Center, 110 Mill St.

Proceeds will benefit the Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation, which provides camp and pool scholarships to Gahanna-Jefferson Public School students.

Columbus-based Amaze The Columbus Escape Experience will provide a scavenger hunt throughout Creekside.

Visitors will interact with vendors and look for QR codes, pictures and audio-visual clues to see if they can solve the puzzle to save the day.

The game begins at the Amaze booth by the Creekside pergolas.

Other new activities include a Dino Discovery area, allowing visitors to walk among dinosaur skeletons and play dinosaur-themed games.

Through a superhero area, participants can meet Marvel-inspired characters. They can also participate in superhero-themed games created in partnership with the Gahanna Lincoln High School Fabrication Lab.

Additional activities include pumpkin painting, inflatables, trick-or-treating along a trail on Mill Street and live music by Endless Recess and the Casey Redmond Duo.

"We're looking forward to another successful Creepside Festival," said Jeff Barr, director of Gahanna Parks & Recreation. "The staff has worked hard this year to once again bring new and exciting activities to the event. I think everyone attending will have a great time."

Participants also can join in on the social-media fun with Snapchat Geofilters by using hashtag #creepside2017 on Instagram and Twitter.

Volunteers still are needed for setting up and tearing down as well as assisting with entry points, logistical support, and running games and activities.

Volunteers can sign up via the Creepside website, gahanna.gov/creepside. Once on the page, select the volunteer option and choose a date and time on the Sign Up Genius calendar.

The event's presenting sponsor is Schneider Insurance Agency, backed by Motorists Insurance, and supporting sponsors James Hardie, State Bank and Tina Wedebrook, Keller Williams Capital Partners Realty.

"Thanks to the investment of longtime sponsor Schneider Insurance Agency and other Gahanna businesses, we have been able to enhance this event each year to offer more activities to Gahanna residents, while promoting the restaurants and businesses in the area," said Tom Kneeland, Gahanna's mayor.
