The Westerville Central High School football team needed a win over Westerville South on Oct. 19 to keep its Division I, Region 2 playoff hopes alive.

Senior running back Allen Smith made sure the Warhawks wouldn’t lose, rushing for 276 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries in a 42-35 victory. His 10-yard scoring run with 1 minute, 25 seconds remaining gave Central the win in the final home game for ninth-year coach John Magistro.

Smith’s effort earned him our Player of the Week honor.

While Hilliard Bradley’s Josh Stewart won our Twitter poll, which received 1,444 votes over 24 hours, Smith won the overall vote, which also includes members of the ThisWeekSports staff. The fan vote represents one vote, and each member of the staff also gets a vote.
