A public event designed to increase awareness about opioid addiction will be presented by Health Awareness Recovery Together – a local program of the Hilliard Optimist Club known by its acronym, HART – next week at Hilliard Bradley High School.

"Can You See Me Now?" will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Bradley, 2800 Walker Road.

"Our program is meant to help parents recognize signs of drug abuse," said Kathy Kean, president of the Hilliard Optimist Club and director of HART.

During the presentation, a bedroom will be set up on a stage, Hart said.

The mock bedroom will contain a variety of items in plain sight and parents will be asked to identify anything that could be associated with drug abuse.

"Kids can be creative," she said.

HART members want to make parents aware of innocuous items, such as toilet paper rolls, which can serve as improvised drug-abuse instruments, Kean said.

Hilliard Division of Police officers will provide a PowerPoint presentation to show items police have confiscated and information will be available about area treatment centers, she said.
