Former Hilliard development director David Meeks has died.
Meeks, 53, died Nov. 16 in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he had relocated in 2016 to spend more time with his family.
Mayor Don Schonhardt recalled Meeks as an “amazing colleague, husband, father and friend” who redeveloped the city’s image to be “progressive, dynamic and ready (for) business.”
Meeks’ efforts led directly to such companies as BMW Financial Group moving to Hilliard and the expansion of Verizon Wireless.
In 2014, the city dedicated a 600-foot connector road just north of Cemetery Road, between Britton Parkway and Lyman Drive, as David Meeks Way.
Meeks is survived by his wife, Molly, and two sons, Thomas and Patrick.
