Westerville City School District treasurer Bart Griffith will leave the district effective Jan. 1, 2018, with disability retirement.
The school board approved Griffith's retirement and announced plans for filling the treasurer vacancy on an interim and permanent basis at its Nov. 20 meeting.
Griffith has been with the district for six years.
“This is a bittersweet announcement we are making this evening,” said Rick Vilardo, board president. “Mr. Griffith has done so much to strengthen the financial health of our district that, quite selfishly, we wish we could keep him working for our schools at least another six years. However, we also know that retirement is in his best interest and that of his family.”
In a letter addressed to the board, staff and community, Griffith wrote he has been dealing with serious health issues the past several years, and it has become more difficult to work through them while working at a high level for the district.
Assistant treasurer Laura Hendricks will serve as interim treasurer until a new treasurer is hired.
Vilardo said the board plans to contract with the Ohio School Boards Association at an estimated cost of $7,000 to conduct a search for the next treasurer.
