Powell’s mayor will announce today he intends to seek a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives.
According to a news release from his campaign, Brian Lorenz plans to formally declare his candidacy for the seat representing Ohio’s 67th District tonight, Dec. 19, at Powell’s Municipal Building. The 67th District, which includes the cities of Delaware and Powell, sits entirely within Delaware County.
“When I think of Delaware County, I am inspired by the incredibly hard-working people,” Lorenz said in a statement. “Delaware County has a progressive future – one that will integrate the digital and physical worlds. We have a choice: Move with the future or be left behind.”
Lorenz, who has sat on Powell City Council since 2010, is seeking state office for the first time.
The 67th District is represented by Republican Andrew Brenner, a fellow Powell resident who is ineligible to run for a fifth consecutive term. Brenner intends to run for a seat in the Ohio Senate next year.
Lorenz is the second Republican to announce his or her candidacy for the seat ahead of May’s primary election. Delaware resident Denise Martin, the administrator of Delaware County’s domestic-relations court, announced her intention to run in November.
