Whitehall police arrested a 17-year-old Columbus boy for aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence and a 17-year-old Groveport boy for aggravated robbery at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 13 in connection with an incident in the 900 block of Antwerp Road.

Officers responded to a request for assistance from Columbus police during a traffic stop at Langley Avenue and Lizzie Lane, reports said.

Columbus police were following the suspects' car in an unmarked vehicle and had observed it rapidly flee from the Antwerp Road residence, according to reports. Police then learned that the occupants of the residence had reported a robbery at gunpoint.

Whitehall police went to the Antwerp Road residence, where a woman told police her two sons were robbed at gunpoint during a transaction involving shoes that followed an online agreement.

Columbus police reported they observed someone throw a handgun from the suspects' vehicle in the area of Langley Avenue and Country Club Drive.

Witnesses at the Antwerp Road residence identified the two suspects as those who pointed a gun at them and took the shoes, according to reports.

Three other people in the suspects' vehicle were questioned but not charged, reports said.

Whitehall police reportedly recovered a loaded .380-caliber handgun.

One of the suspects told police he went to the residence to trade his shoes for another pair but canceled it when he was told by another person the shoes for which he was trading were fake. He said he was not aware a gun was in the vehicle.

The shoes, a handgun and a cellphone were seized as evidence, police said.

The two boys arrested were transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.
