A funny thing happened with the Northwest Civic Association's January board of trustees meeting.
It didn't happen.
Board President Nick Cipiti announced via email Dec. 27 there would not be a monthly session Jan. 3.
"There are no zoning issues this month and there will be some trustees unable to attend," Cipiti wrote in his email.
"I hope the committee chairs will take the opportunity to meet with their groups and continue to make progress on their projects."
In an interview, Cipiti said a tentative guest speaker for the Jan. 3 meeting essentially backed out, which helped influence his decision.
Marilyn Goodman, chairwoman of the NWCA's graphics and zoning committee, said last week she wasn't surprised by the absence of any cases for the panel to consider at the first meeting of 2018.
"Not really, because of the holiday season," she said.
"I do expect to start getting them again. I do expect to get some soon."
With several trustees unable to attend, there wouldn't have been much purpose to convening Jan. 3, in Goodman's view.
"Anything we could have accomplished would have been with a partial board, and that's not the best way to accomplish things or to communicate information," she said. "I understand his decision."
Looking ahead to the next meeting, which would fall on Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road, Cipiti said he will be inviting a member of the Dublin City School District board of education to attend. The purpose would be to get a sense of what the school district's objectives are when it comes to development of the Sheep Farm property near the Ohio State University Airport on West Case Road, Cipiti added.
"I'm quite thrilled about that," said Roy Wentzel, a member of a group of concerned citizens seeking to influence the approach OSU officials take if and when they sell the 57-acre site.
"I think that's another entity, an avenue that we need to pursue. That is good news, to have Dublin City Schools involved."
Wentzel urged Northwest Side residents to take a survey regarding the Sheep Farm property at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NNYY662.
The school district official isn't all that's scheduled for Feb. 7, Cipiti said.
"We're going to need to elect a new treasurer with Mark (Krietemeyer's) departure and I want to hear from all the committees and see what they've been up to," he said.
"I think the membership committee's got a few things that they're working on in terms of some gatherings and so forth."
