An unidentified man was observed attempting to enter a residence on the 400 block of Colonial Avenue by breaking down the door with his shoulder on the afternoon of Dec. 20.

According to reports from the Worthington Division of Police, the man was seen at the house at 1 p.m. The man was described as in his 20s or 30s, with "shaggy" brown hair and wearing a neon jacket.

He fled the area in an "older-model" van with painted windows, police said.

Another complaint of an attempted break-in was made the day before the Dec. 20 incident.

On Dec. 19, a resident on the 200 block of Kenbrook Drive reported an attempted break-in at the back door of a residence.

In other recent Worthington police incident reports:

* Multiple vehicles were broken into between December 15 and 27.

Reports of items stolen from vehicles were made from the 800 block of Proprietors Road, 5700 block of Granby Street, 400 block of Pittsfield Drive, first block of West Dublin-Granville Road, 100 block of Sinsbury Drive North and 500 block of Evening Street.

Wallets, purses and laptops were among items reported missing. In some cases the vehicles were left unlocked, while in others windows were broken.

In addition, an owner on the 300 block of Colonial Avenue reported that a vehicle's tires were slashed between Dec. 16 and 18.

* Police received seven more reports of stolen or forged checks that were sent through the mail.

Throughout 2017, several residents and others from surrounding communities had reported payroll checks stolen and forged.

The thefts are being investigated by the local office of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
