A Franklin County grand jury has indicted a 32-year-old Groveport man for the New Year’s Eve shooting death of his wife.
A press release from Prosecutor Rob O’Brien’s office said Sean M. Newman was indicted on two counts of murder with specifications and two counts of felonious assault for the death of 30-year-old Ashley Marie Newman.
According to the release, police officers were called to the Newman home at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
They found Ashley Newman with a gunshot wound to the head. Medics transported her to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
Sean Newman was taken into custody a short time later after they found him near his wrecked car on Interstate 270 near Alum Creek.
O’Brien said Newman had crashed his car into another vehicle.
Newman is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, Jan. 12, in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.
