All Delaware County schools will release students early today, Jan. 12, as nasty winter weather approaches.

The Buckeye Valley, Delaware and Olentangy school districts all announced on social media school buildings will dismiss two hours earlier than usual today. 

Big Walnut will dismiss students in grades 5-12 at 12:30 p.m., while students in grades K-4 will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.    The Delaware Area Career Center announced today it will follow the dismissal policies set by students' home districts.    All Delaware County Preservation Parks will close at 11 a.m. as well.

The latest forecast from the weather.gov monitoring station in Wilmington calls for rain before 1 p.m., then freezing rain and sleet between 1 and 5 p.m., and snow, freezing rain and sleet likely after 5 p.m.

The forecast from 10TV is calling for a few hours of freezing rain before it transitions to sleet in the early evening. Three to 6 inches of snow is expected across central Ohio through Saturday.

Due to the expected afternoon weather conditions, DCS will implement a  2-hour early dismissal process today, Friday January 12. Afternoon SACC  and all after school activities are cancelled.

Rain will segue into ice around 3 p.m., according to forecasts.
