This shot of state Route 315 looking south from state Route 161, taken in July 1980, shows the work that was progressing that summer on the final two sections of the 10.5-mile "Olentangy Freeway."

The $50 million project, in the works since the early 1960s, was expected to link downtown Columbus with I-270 by the summer of 1981.

This shows a part of the north section, which was 2.9 miles from Bethel Road to I-270, as workers there prepared the roadway for the waiting concrete trucks.
