A 16-year-old Dublin Coffman High School student was recommended by Dublin police for the juvenile diversion program with a possible charge of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone after police responded at 5:24 p.m. Feb. 14 to the report of a juvenile who had brandished a revolver in the parking lot of Coffman High School, 5200 Emerald Parkway.

Police visited the student's home and found a large, black revolver sticking out from under the front passenger seat of his vehicle.

The student told police that he typically carries the BB gun in his vehicle to go target shooting with friends and also as personal protection.

He said he held the weapon up at a traffic light to show a friend in another car in the next lane and denied threatening anyone. He also denied bringing the weapon inside the school.

* A 17-year-old Dublin Coffman High School student was charged with first-degree misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing and making false alarms Feb. 27.

According to Dublin Police Department reports, an anonymous tip called in to the Dublin City School District's helpline indicated the boy had made comments about shooting other students.

Dublin police investigated the allegation and determined there was not an immediate threat and no Dublin students or schools were in danger.

However, through interviews with witnesses, police determined there was sufficient evidence the boy did threaten others with physical harm, according to reports.

Police and school district officials said they appreciated the help of those who reported the threats and provided additional information that assisted the investigation.

The officials encouraged anyone with information to report threats or other criminal acts to Dublin police by calling 614-889-1112; or by going online at Dublin-OhioUSA.gov/police.

The school district's anonymous helpline allows students and the public to report tips on any subject, including threats. The number is 1-866-LISTEN-2-ME.
