From the outside, Four String Brewing’s Hilltop home might seem like a normal industrial building, but within the confines of the Hague Avenue facility, owner Dan Cochran and his team have cemented themselves as one of the most recognizable brands in the central Ohio craft brewery scene.

ThisWeek staff members stopped by Four String’s production facility and taproom at 660 N. Hague Ave. in west Columbus on March 1 for week 7 of the #ThisWeekBreweryTour.

Cochran gave us a taste of a few of his favorite beers and discussed the company’s past, present and future from the facility's large taproom, which boasts pinball, ping-pong and TVs.

Cochran also expounded on the overwhelming success of Four String’s Hilltop Lager – so overwhelming that he even admitted to being surprised – and why the time was right for Four String to introduce such an accessible beer.

Now, he said, Four String is ready to capitalize on Hilltop’s success, experimenting with other lagers and even planning the launch of a light version – though he wasn't ready to reveal too much about the plan just yet.

But it’s not just light and simple at Four String. The brewery still offers heavy-hitters like its Vanilla Porter or Switchblade IPA, and perhaps still its most well-known beer, Brass Knuckle Pale Ale.

We will see if our special ThisWeek brew stacks up against any of those luminaries. We will head back to North High Brewing, 1288 N. High St. in Columbus, on Thursday, March 8, to bottle the beer we started brewing Feb. 8.
