The Kroger Co. began work this morning, March 5, to grade property on East Main Street in preparation for building a gas station that will be part of a new store at the northwest corner of East Main Street and Rosehill Road in Reynoldsburg.
The company acquired the 16-acre site of a former trailer park from Greenlawn Realty Co., owner of the mobile-home community and the surrounding vacant land.
Reynoldsburg development director Andrew Bowsher said site grading and dirt removal would prepare the property for the installation of petrol tanks.
“The gas station will be completed by late June, and shortly after, they will start the construction of the store,” he said.
He said the anticipated date of completion for the new grocery store is late September 2019.
“The Kroger lease on its current location for East Main will expire in December 2019,” Bowsher said. “Once the new store is completed, the current Kroger will relocate the remaining products and employees to the new store.”
He said the store at 6962 E. Main St. would be closed.
The new Kroger will be about 100,000 square feet and will be a traditional grocery store, with expanded departments, not a Marketplace store, as originally reported, said Kroger corporate-affairs manager Amy McCormick.
He said the city offered no tax benefits to Kroger for the development.
