A cyclist escaped from the path of an oncoming truck -- but his bike did not -- in a crash late last month in Orange Township.

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies responded about 7 a.m. Feb. 28 to a report of a crash at the intersection of East Orange Road and Green Meadows Drive North.

The driver of a truck told deputies he was in the process of turning left from Orange Road onto Green Meadows Drive when he "saw a flash of movement and felt a bump," according to sheriff's reports.

The truck struck a bicycle abandoned by its rider immediately before the crash at the northern leg of the intersection, reports said.

The cyclist said he was waiting at the stop sign in the southbound lane on Green Meadows Drive when he saw the truck approach, according to sheriff's reports. He told deputies he "believed he was not being seen by (the truck driver)" and feared the vehicle's angle of approach would lead to a crash, reports said.

The cyclist abandoned his bike and ran to the edge of the road before the impact occurred, according to sheriff's reports. No one was injured in the incident, reports said.
