A 24-year-old Westerville woman was charged after accidentally shooting herself in the leg, according to Westerville police reports.

The woman and her friend told police they had been drinking after midnight Feb. 21 when they were startled by another person's unannounced arrival.

In a panic, the woman reportedly loaded a handgun -- which she had a concealed-carry permit for -- and they fled the area.

According to reports, the two women were walking behind the first block of South State Street when the woman with the gun decided to unload it, accidentally shooting herself in the knee in the process.

She was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital for treatment and charged with using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree felony, reports stated.
