A 21-year-old woman who lives in the 600 block of Jasonway Avenue told Columbus police at 8:14 p.m. May 3 she had been scammed out of $21,000.
The victim said that at 3 p.m. April 28, she got an "iMessage" purporting to be someone from the Chinese consulate.
In his report, the responding officer wrote: "(The victim) explained that she believed them at that time and they let her know that she was being investigated for money laundering and she needed to give them all of her funds which they would then return if they could not find it connected to illegal activity.
"The victim stated that she was told if she failed to transfer her funds as they requested the suspect(s) would take her into custody."
In other recent Columbus Division of Police incident reports from northwest Columbus:
* A flat-screen television and a checkbook were taken during a burglary that was reported in the 4300 block of Spice Market Drive North at 6:45 p.m. May 3. No value was listed for the items taken.
The victims, women 39 and 33 years old, said someone forced their way in through a back window of the apartment sometime after 8:30 that morning.
* A "no-trespass" order was issued to an employee of a store in the 7600 block of Sawmill Road at 11:14 a.m. May 23 after he allegedly admitted to embezzling $988.59.
A representative of the business told the responding officer that on 23 occasions dating to Feb. 13 and continuing through April 28, the suspect took money from the store.
"Suspect was at scene when officers arrived and admitted he took the money to buy food," according to the report. * A 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, said they were the victims in a road-rage incident that occurred at 11:05 a.m. May 2 in the 7600 block of Sandcroft Road.
Reports said the other driver kicked the victims' car, slapped the woman and pointed a gun at them before and had chased them in their vehicle in traffic."
* A $7,000 trailer containing $3,000 in roofing materials was reported stolen at 8:06 a.m. May 1 from the 7700 block of Rivers Edge Drive. The person filing the complaint said the theft took place after 5 p.m. April 26.
* A woman, 28, reported someone stole $260 in cash from a drawer in her bedroom in the 5000 block of Dierker Road between 8:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. April 30.
