Whitehall police arrested a 19-year-old Whitehall man for burglary, a second-degree felony, after he reportedly entered an assisted-living facility.

Police were dispatched to Ashford on Broad, 4801 E. Broad St., at 4:35 a.m. May 3 and arrested the man.

The suspect told police he left his Robinwood Avenue residence "to clear his head over some issues" with his girlfriend.

He told police he asked for the time at a gas station at East Broad Street and South Hamilton Road and learned it was 3:20 a.m.

Next, he said he jumped a fence, then fell asleep on patio furniture outside Ashford on Broad.

After he awoke, he told police he wanted to know the time and was "surprised" to find an unlocked door at the facility, which is open and staffed 24 hours.

He wandered inside the facility about three to five minutes, according to reports.

After walking back out of the facility, police approached the man, and he was taken into custody.

The man was in possession of a pellet gun and a mask and reportedly told police he was carrying the gun to "look cool" and for protection in case he was attacked while walking at night.

The mask was around his neck while he was walking around the facility, he told police, adding he did not damage or take any property.
