The Groveport Madison Board of Education voted unanimously in a special meeting at 7 a.m. today, May 25, to name Garilee Speer Ogden to be the district’s next superintendent.
She was one of three finalists for the job; the others are interim Superintendent John Hurd and Dr. Carl R. Metzger, assistant superintendent of South-Western City Schools in Grove City.
In a press release from the district, board President Bryan Shoemaker said Ogden was a strong candidate because of her track record as a director of curriculum and instruction and as director of accountability and professional development for the district and because of her experience as an elementary and intermediate school principal.
Ogden will succeed former superintendent Bruce Hoover, who resigned in February. Hurd has been interim superintendent since then.
The press release contained no information about salary and benefits for Ogden, but said the board awarded her a three-year contract that starts Aug. 1 and gave her an interim superintendent contract that allows her to begin her duties July 1.
