More than 130 acres in Jersey Township have been approved for annexation into New Albany and its business park.

The tracts now are slated for rezoning. New Albany City Council on June 5 approved annexation of 108.8 acres and 26.2 acres.

The larger tract is in Licking County east of Evans Road, west of Beech Road and south of Jug Street, according to a May 31 council memo. The smaller tract is in Franklin County southeast of Evans Road, west of Beech Road and north of Smith's Mill Road. Both properties are owned by the Albert A. Strauss Trust.

The next step is to rezone the property, said Jennifer Chrysler, New Albany's community-development director. City Council would vote on the rezonings July 3, she said.

City leaders are not aware of an end user at this time, she said.

The annexation fits into New Albany's strategic plan that land south of Central College Road and Jug Street and east of Kitzmiller Road would become part of the New Albany International Business Park, Chrysler said.

The business park encompasses about 4,000 acres, according to New Albany spokesman Scott McAfee.
