Orange Township will host a pair of free family movie nights in North Orange Park this summer.

Families can enjoy watching a film under the stars, along with food trucks and live entertainment, at the township's Summer Nights events, slated for later this month and again in August.

The first event will begin at 7 p.m. June 23 at the park, 7560 Gooding Blvd.

"Sherlock Gnomes" will be shown on a nearly 50-foot-tall screen "with a great sound system," said Barrett Ault, chairwoman of the Orange Township parks board.

Officials expect about 500 people to attend each of the two nights.

"It's really turned into something big," Ault said. "We fill that field pretty well."

The band Franklin Xpress will play for about two hours prior to the start of the movie.

Food trucks will sell treats, including kettle corn. Several local businesses will be on hand with kid-friendly activities such as bubbles and games, Ault said.

The movie starts at dusk, shortly after 9 p.m., Ault said.

A second Summer Nights event is planned for Aug. 4, with the film to be decided by a popular vote on the township's Facebook page, Ault said.

"We're really hoping that the residents are noticing that the parks board is putting on events like this and encourage everyone to come out," she said.

Families are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Additional parking will be available in the field across Gooding Boulevard.
