Several Upper Arlington homes on Brandon Road were evacuated Wednesday evening, June 20, after a gas-line break, according to city officials.

Upper Arlington spokeswoman Emma Speight said at 5:26 p.m. June 20 that “several homes” in the immediate area on Brandon Road, between Ridgeview and Northam roads, were evacuated because of a 10-inch gas line that had ruptured on Brandon.

In addition to the evacuations, Brandon currently is closed to through traffic.

“Columbia Gas crews are on scene,” Speight said. “The first attempt of plugging the line to repair the break was unsuccessful.

“This could mean repairs could take longer than the expected one- to two-hour repair time and could also affect more homes than expected.”

Speight said that, as a precaution, the Upper Arlington Senior Center at 1945 Ridgeview Road would be available for residents if needed.
