The process of obtaining various permits is among the reasons for a delay in the scheduled opening of Legacy Smokehouse in Old Hilliard, according to co-owner Chad Smock.

Smock said in March the restaurant was slated to open in early June at 3987 Main St., but it had not opened by the end of June.

During the third week of June, Smock said, the opening was "probably five to six weeks out."

Legacy Smokehouse will occupy a former antique bookstore that once was owned and operated by Nelda Bridgeman.

The lot has three structures, two smaller structures that another co-owner describe as a pole barn and a carriage house that will be leased, and a 1,600-square foot, two-story brick building that fronts Main Street and will become the restaurant.

A 700-square-foot addition to enlarge the size of the restaurant is underway.
