Dublin police and the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office have received several reports of mail theft from outdoor mail drop boxes outside the Shawan Falls Drive Post Office, 715 Shawan Falls Drive, according to a city of Dublin press release.

Thieves reportedly took items from letters dropped off to be mailed in several instances, according to the release.

City officials are advising residents to hand mail directly to a letter carrier or mail it from inside the post office or a secure workplace mail receptacle.

Officials also advise residents to contact issuing agencies if they don't receive a check or other expected valuable mail; remove mail daily or ask trusted people to collect mail; and track shipments of expected package deliveries.

Those witnessing a mail theft can call 911 and report the act to postal inspectors by calling 1-877-876-2455. Stolen mail can also be reported at postalinspectors.uspis.gov.
