Worthington Division of Police officers are investigating the death of a man after a passerby discovered his body in a Worthington parking lot Thursday night, July 5.
According to a Worthington police press release, the man's body was discovered at 6:37 p.m. in a parked car in a lot outside the Shops At Worthington Place, 7227 N. High St., Worthington.
Officers and medics were called to the scene, and the man was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
The man had "possibly been there for a period of several days," the report said.
Investigators said they do not suspect foul play, and they found "items associated with drug use" in the vehicle.
Sgt. Jim Moran said it included paraphernalia "consistent with drug use."
Moran said he could not speculate on the type of drugs involved and investigators are awaiting toxicology reports and analysis of the paraphernalia.
Because of those suspicions, he said, the case is being treated as an overdose, and investigators will use strategies from the Franklin County Heroin Overdose Prevention and Education Task Force.
"We're going to use the HOPE Task Force overdose protocol unless we learn otherwise," he said.
