The Westerville North High School Theater Boosters are behind golden flamingo decorations making appearances in yards throughout the city.

Amy Raubenolt, who is known as the custodian of the Golden Flock, said the birds were scheduled to make their first landing in the Spring Grove neighborhood Aug. 26.

"We have a flock of 30 birds that fly over Westerville in support of the North theater department," Raubenolt said. "Sometimes half of the flock alights in a yard, and sometimes the whole flock arrives. They now migrate around the district, showing their love and support for the shows and the North theater department."

Jenny Jenkins, Westerville North Theater Boosters vice president, said the Golden Flock fundraiser is a fun way to bring attention to upcoming shows and to support theater.

The shows for the 2018-19 season include "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," Oct. 4-7; "A Christmas Carol," Dec. 6-9; "Newsies," March 14-17 and senior-directed one acts, May 2-4.

Raubenolt said orders for the Golden Flock are being taken though Oct 6. The next season of the Golden Flock will run from Oct. 21 through Dec. 9 and then again from Jan. 13 through Feb. 29. The Golden Flock also will surface for migration the last two weeks of the school year, May 11-24.

"The Golden Flock cannot be sent to public property or to apartment complexes," Raubenolt said.

Funds raised help in a variety of ways. The funds purchase props, costumes, wood, materials, paint, technical supplies and much more for shows -- whatever the current show needs.

"These funds ensure our kids have what they need to grow and learn and be creative as thespians and as young adults in producing their fantastic shows in our community," Raubenolt said.

Theater patrons will find a pair from the Golden Flock at the doors to the Westerville North Performing Arts Center, in costume for shows and greeting patrons.
