After interviewing seven residents Monday, Nov. 5, New Albany City Council is expected to vote on a new member at at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Whomever they select will replace Glyde Marsh, who died Sept. 11 at age 99 after serving as a council member since 1993.

Council members interviewed Lawrence Cohen, David Goodman, Kasey Kist, Hans Schell, Kirk Smith, Andrea Wiltrout and Robert Yanok.

They must select a council member by Nov. 11 or Mayor Sloan Spalding will choose the appointee, per the city charter, said Jennifer Mason, council clerk.

According to the charter, City Council has 60 days from the start of a vacancy to fill the position. Marsh’s seat was considered vacated Sept. 12.

The appointee would have to run for election in November 2019 to finish Marsh’s four-year term, Mason said. The term expires Dec. 31, 2021.
