New Albany City Council on Nov. 6 unanimously voted to appoint Kasey Kist to replace Glyde Marsh, who died Sept. 11 at age 99 after serving as a council member since 1993.

Kist will be sworn in as council member at a special meeting at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, said Mayor Sloan Spalding.

Kist said he is excited to take on the new role.

"The current council is a great group that has done a fantastic job," he said.

Council members interviewed Kist on Nov. 5 along with Lawrence Cohen, David Goodman, Hans Schell, Kirk Smith, Andrea Wiltrout and Robert Yanok.

Kist will have to run for election in November 2019 to finish Marsh’s four-year term, which ends Dec. 31, 2021.
