As 2018 winds down, Southwest Public Libraries will play host to a range of events in December to share some cheer through the holiday season.
Once again, Signs of Christmas returns to both the Grove City and Westland branches. This musical group uses American Sign Language to perform classic carols while promoting awareness of deafness and issues with hearing. If you’ve never seen the group perform, you’re in for a visually dazzling treat. Signs of Christmas will be at both locations Dec. 15, performing at 1 p.m. at Grove City Library and 3 p.m. at Westland Area Library.
Santa Claus will also stop at both libraries. Santa will visit the Grove City Library from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Children can get their picture taken with the guest of honor for a $5 donation that will benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. His Grove City visit is presented by Twig 184.
Santa will be at Westland from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11. No donation is required.
The library will also offer the chance for some hands-on craft activities.
Westland will host Let’s Make an Angel at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12. This program is open to ages 10 and up. Have you finished reading a book but don’t want to leave it on your shelf? Then transform into a craft angel. This program is limited to 20 people, so call 614-878-1301, ext. 232, or stop by the Westland Youth Services Department to register.
Grove City Library has its own creative programs scheduled. Reindeer Games will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8. Children ages 4-12 are invited for snacks, crafts and games while they wait for Santa’s arrival.
Grove City Library will also host Make and Take Ornament Crafts all day the first two weekends of December. Children are invited to stop in the Youth Services Department anytime on Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2, or Dec. 8 and 9 to make an ornament they can hang on their tree or give as a gift.
No registration is required for Make and Take Ornament Crafts or Crafty Christmas, scheduled all day Dec. 21-23. Those who need something to do on the holiday break can stop in and create a craft.
Teens are invited to Grove City Library’s Ugly Sweater Party at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Do you have the ugliest Christmas sweater ever? Show it off. Participants will make crafts, play games and enjoy cookies and cocoa while watching a Christmas movie. ’Tis the season to share the ugly!
Westland will have a craft program for adults, as it hosts Holiday Craft from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3. Join the group in making two holiday ornaments to take home. One is a clear, glass ball filled with page lines from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” and the other is a painted and/or embellished clay ornament. Register at the Westland Reference Desk or call 614-878-1301, ext. 603.
