With a small roster, rainouts and the annual mission trip for seniors, the Delaware Christian School softball team has had trouble playing games with regularity this spring.

"It's been a very choppy schedule so far and we haven't been able to get any continuity," said third-year coach Tom Morgan, whose team has 11 players. "We had spring break and had trouble with our seniors getting back from their mission trip on time and then you add the five or six rainouts."

The Eagles were 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the MOCAL before playing Gahanna Christian on April 13.

Delaware Christian returns seven players from last year's team, which finished 10-9 overall and went 4-2 in the MOCAL to place second behind Granville Christian (6-0).

The returnees are seniors Hope Clark (RF), Madie Morgan (P), Caitlyn Ruminski (C) and Madisen Wallace (CF), juniors Kara Haskins (3B/P) and Emily Parrish (SS/3B) and sophomore Haileigh Darnell (2B).

Morgan shared MOCAL Player of the Year honors last season with Granville Christian's Savannah Richards. Haskins and Parrish both were first-team all-league.

Rounding out the roster are sophomore Zoe Twigg (LF) and freshmen Michelle Flick (RF), Cassidy Justice (1B) and Annie Wallace (LF).

"We have a mix of veterans with a sophomore and three freshmen," coach Morgan said. "It's a great group of girls who are working hard. Our pitching and catching are strong, although Madie is going to throw a lot of innings. The left side of the infield is solid, and Madisen is very consistent tracking balls in center field.

"But our hitting has been feast or famine. I'm hoping that is due to not playing on a consistent basis. I think once we start playing more, our offense will improve greatly."

The Eagles lost Skylin Martin (1B) and Liz Sullivan (C) to graduation. Sullivan was first-team all-league and Martin was honorable mention. In addition, senior Alaina Durant (OF) and junior Rachel Sullivan (2B/OF) are not with the team after being starters a year ago.

The Eagles lost to Buckeye Valley 10-0 on March 27 and 12-0 the following day before beating Harvest Prep 23-2 on March 30. They then lost to Granville Christian 11-1 on April 4, defeated new MOCAL member Shekinah Christian 24-2 on April 10 and lost to Berne Union 13-0 on April 11. Also, an April 3 game against Wellington was suspended in the fifth inning.
