Ohio State took Stanford to the limit before falling an NCAA Tournament semifinal 4-3 at the Bill Moore Indoor Tennis Center in Atlanta.
In the final match, Taylor Davidson defeated Gabriella De Santis of Ohio State 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. With the win, the Cardinal advanced to play Florida today in the final.
Ohio State took a 2-0 lead by taking the doubles point and on a win by No. 1 singles player Francesca Di Lorenzo, who defeated Caroline Doyle 6-1, 6-0. Stanford closed to 2-1 when Emily Arbuthnott defeated Sandy Niehaus 6-4, 6-3 and tied it when Melissa Lord went to a tiebreaker set to defeat Anna Sanford 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
At No. 6 singles, Emma Higuchi defeated Ferny Angeles Paz of Ohio State 6-4, 7-5. And at No. 4 singles Miho Kowase of OSU defeated Caroline Lampl 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 to tie the score at 3, leaving No. 3 singles to decide the outcome.
The match was originally scheduled to be played in Athens at the University of Georgia but was moved to Atlanta and the indoor courts at Georgia Tech because of rain.
Florida won the other semifinal by defeating Vanderbilt 4-2.
