The Upper Arlington High School boys lacrosse team moved one step closer to defending its Division I state championship with a 12-11 victory over Dublin Coffman in a regional final May 26 at Olentangy.

The top-seeded Golden Bears improved to 20-2 and advanced to play Cincinnati St. Xavier or Cincinnati Moeller in a state semifinal May 31.

The second-seeded Shamrocks finished 18-4.

UA lost its only games this season to Coffman (16-12 on May 2) and Moeller (8-7 on May 6).

In the rematch with the Shamrocks, the Bears led 12-6 and held off a late rally.

“We were just winning the individual matchups,” UA senior attacker Jack Dolan said. “Once we got a couple in, it made it easier.”

Dolan had four goals and three assists, Matt Marsh scored three goals and goalkeeper Davis Kurz made 10 saves to lead UA.

Cam Bowdy, Andrew Boyle, Evan James, Luke Holland and Evan Tyack all scored two goals for the Shamrocks.

“It’s really tough playing against a good team on Wednesday (in a regional semifinal) and then have one day to prepare (for the final),” Bears coach Kyle Olson said, referring to his team’s 9-3 win over fourth-seeded Hilliard Davidson on May 24. “Our guys did a great job.”
