Karen Bailey has stepped down after two seasons as Watterson High School girls lacrosse coach.

The Eagles went 13-6-1 in 2016 and 16-5 this spring.

“She’s due with her first child in August and wants to focus on being a mom,” athletics director Doug Etgen said. “She’ll still teach here at Watterson. She was a good coach for us for two years, culminating in one of the better girls (lacrosse) seasons ever here at Watterson this year.”

After reaching the second round of the Division I South/Central Region tournament in 2016, fourth-seeded Watterson lost to top-seeded Upper Arlington 19-5 on May 23 in a Division I, Region 3 semifinal during the first OHSAA-sanctioned postseason.

The Eagles set a program record for wins and had a 13-member senior class that was led by defender Kelsey Hatem and attackers Anne Reed and Torie Sullivan.

Watterson also is seeking a boys lacrosse coach after Tom Foley recently retired.
